Carnuntum
Some 2000 years ago Emperor Tiberius had a winter camp built here which later became one of the Roman’s empire most important metropolises.

Carnuntum was positioned on the international political map thanks to Emperor Marc Aurel who resided in Carnuntum and to Emperor Septimius Severus who was proclaimed emperor in Carnuntum by his troops.

The Museum boasts precious findings from the antique Carnuntum including jewelry, tools, arms and cult objects. With its 3,300 exhibits the Carnuntinum Museum in Bad Deutsch-Altenburg is Austria’s largest Roman museum.
