For over 1000 years Melk has been the spiritual and cultural center of Lower Austria. Originally founded as residence for the Babenbergs in 1089, the building has been accommodating Benedictine monks for over 900 years now.
The new museum takes a modern sight with splendid architecture, light and sound installations and new media such as computer animations. Especially remarkable are the Marble Hall and the library with its outstanding frescoes.
