The Celtic Museum in Hallein boasts one of Europe’s best and most important Celtic collections. It offers an extensive overview of the Celts in Europe as well as insight into historic salt mining on Dürrnberg, the development of the city of Hallein and the creation of the world’s most famous Christmas carol Silent Night.
The museum contains all burial finds that have been excavated on Dürrnberg since 1949. Centerpiece of the exhibition is the grave of a Celtic chieftain who was buried in a wooden box on a war chariot. The intact burial site dates from the second half of the 5th century BC and was found in 1959 on Moserstein plateau.
